OOTD: In Search of Myself

I want to travel somewhere my mind has never wandered, to places yet unexplored by the hands that drive my thoughts. Wouldn’t it be delightful to open your eyes one day and find yourself in a world far beyond what you’ve ever dreamed about? Oh the possibilities! How exciting it will be to face the unknown!

You see, sometimes, we build borders around ourselves to keep us safe. In these borders, we welcome the familiar with open arms yet anything strange is looked upon with caution. Of course, it makes sense that as human beings, we have a healthy sense of self – preservation. Yet what about the growth that occurs only when we allow ourselves to be exposed with foreign entities?

Take, for example, the flowers that thrive because they allow bees to pollinate them? Or perhaps the Β beauty of falling in love with a stranger, which M. Scott Peck defines as “the will to extend one’s self for the purpose of nurturing one’s own or another’s spiritual growth?”

Although our borders keep us secure, maybe there’s more to life than the constant struggle for security. Why not look beyond our gated walls? Why not venture into the dark unknown? Maybe only in doing so may we truly find what we were meant to become.

And although these thoughts dabble in uncertainties, there’s no need to be scared. Most of our lives, we went for that which is certain – choosing the course in university that will definitely lead to an assured career path, going with the company that can guarantee a high pay for a better future, and maybe sometimes going into a relationship that promises less pain. It’s high time that we face the unknown with courage.

For the pain it may bring or the failure that may follow, there is an equal chance for happiness and success. Moreover, it’s the pain and failure that leads most to growth.

And all these are the reasons for my desire to travel somewhere I have never been because only by doing will I be able to challenge myself and find the woman I can possibly become.
