Thoughts on Virginia Olsen Minerals’ 2013 Collection

I first heard about Virginia Olsen Minerals (VOM) through bloggers’ review about their products and their free samples in Saladbox. It was my first time trying out mineral makeup and although I wasn’t too happy about the packaging of the samples, I had to admit that the pigmentation was great. I was actually pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Virginia Olsen samples I got.

A few weeks ago, I was given the opportunity to get to know the brand more as they launched their collection for 2013. Of course, I was very excited to know more about them and their products so I made sure not to miss it.

For everyone’s benefit, here are a few information about Virginia Olsen Minerals:

  • Virginia Olsen Minerals is a US cosmetics company committed to delivering 100% pure natural mineral makeup that’s paraben free, bismuth and talc free.
  • Their fragrance – free formulation makes their products ideal for women with sensitive skin.
  • Their product range includes eyeshadows, concealer, foundation, blusher, a green tea line, makeup brushes, and the Sophia Eyelash Enhancer.

Now on to their 2013 Collection:

The 2013 collection is comprised of 10 lovely shades. Among the 10, 6 shades are matte due to popular demand. Just to give you a background, their 2012 collection had lots of shades with a shimmery finish so this year, they beefed up their matte line. Also, there are 4 shades of green in the collection, it being the color of the year. πŸ™‚

Below are swatches of the products to help you appreciate the colors more. For some reason, though, I missed swatching “Forest.” Dumb me! 😦

The four shimmery shades are Lilac Lust, Sparkling Jade, Sphinx, and Midnight Glam.

Personally, I think this collection shows a good variety of shades that are great for creating both day and evening looks. The colors, of course, are very apt for summer. My favorites are Midnight Glam because of its dark, rich shade and Lilac Lust because it’s the perfect shade of purple for summer. πŸ™‚

I also got to play with the other eyeshadows from their past collections. I swatched some of the more interesting colors for everyone.

Above, you can see the actual containers of the products. It’s definitely better than the packaging of the samples.

I really recommend Jirbie as seen in the lower right box above. This color is iridescent and changes its sheen depending on the light. It’s just so beautiful! πŸ™‚

Summer Sun, Festival, and Purple Unicorn are some of the colors recommended by VOM for this summer. I’m definitely loving Festival’s bright blue shade! πŸ™‚

All VOM eyeshadows are PHP150 per 1 gram. That small pot can last you ages as you don’t need a lot to get your desired color. πŸ™‚

Other than those, you should also check out their brushes. Their brushes are made from synthetic taklon bristles and natural bamboo. These are hypoallergenic, cruelty-free, and suitable for both wet and dry applications.

I own their new sculpting brush and short shader brush and I gotta say that both are so soft! There were no fall outs too, which is quite impressive! You can buy their 2013 limited edition set for PHP1,500.

To sum it all up, I think Virginia Olsen Minerals is a brand with great potential. They carry good quality products at affordable prices. If you want to learn more about them, do check out the following:

  2. Those look very pigmented. Would love to see them on your lids to see how they are when applied.

The brushes remind me of Ecotools which I did not have a good experience with.

  3. I haven’t heard of this brand yet, although I love using mineral makeup since they’re light and perfect for my sensitive skin.. πŸ™‚ I mostly use foundation and concealer MMUs and veer away from MMU eyeshadows/pigments ’cause I always have a hard time with them *sigh* but VOM seems like a good brand ah, and those pigments look super nice!

  4. the colours looks stunning! plus the a lot of variety now so its much better for everyone!! Love the olive branch colour and chameleon!
