There was a certain sense of history to the place. My senses were hooked, very much attuned to the slightest changes in the atmosphere.
As I stood there, long – forgotten footfalls echoed through my ears and the distant sound of muffled conversations lingered way beyond their time. Despite the warnings I received about being here, I stood my ground. I wasn’t afraid. My memories have always been my friends.
You see, my dear, when no one else was there for me, my memories kept me company. They always took me to a happy place where the sun always shone and wildflowers grew profusely in the nearby meadow. Instead of the dark, miserable room that serve as my holding cell every night, I was transported to a place that I held so very dear. That place where you and I laid on a field of grass, hands closely intertwined.
You called me Belle Fleur – your beautiful flower – as I stood there with my skirt dancing with the breeze. Petal by petal, I opened myself to you, revealing the self I usually kept hidden from the world.
Slowly, yes, oh so slowly, you wooed me with your tender words and quick wit. I bloomed like I never have in my life!
Delicately, you held my heart in your hands. You knew it was yours to do as you please.
I was your beautiful flower – common as a daisy, precious as a lily. You were my glorious sun – powerful and vibrant.
There was no end to our happiness, no shortage to our desire.
Yet today I stand here, living through what’s left of my memories.
I am a lone flower in a wilderness where there’s no sun.
