Helloooo, Monday! I’m starting this week right by writing about food. I don’t know about you, but food makes me very happy. 🙂
This post has been long-delayed. Lately, I’ve been easily distracted so I haven’t had the chance to sit down and focus on writing this. Nevertheless, I’m trying my best to do it now. Today, I’m sharing with you all some of the food stops I made last Tuesday while I was roaming around the Manila area.
STOP 1: OCHADO
After walking around Tutuban Center Mall for almost two hours, my friend Biel and I were super thirsty. We were intending to go to Happy Lemon at Robinson’s Place Ermita but on our way out of Center Mall, we saw this tea place. The selection looked good so we decided to give it ago.
Their drinks are a few pesos cheaper than the milk tea places in other malls but they still offer lots of choices. I got one of their top 10 drinks – the Grape Yogurt Aloe Vera Tea – while Biel got the Vera Lychee Tea.
I’m not usually a fan of these drinks so I had no expectations coming into the place. Upon tasting my Grape Yogurt Aloe Vera Tea, though, I was delighted to find that it was very delicious! It tasted like real crushed grapes with bits of aloe vera in every sip. I love aloe vera so this was super perfect! It wasn’t too sweet or heavy either so it’s great as a thirst quencher.
Meanwhile, Biel’s Vera Lychee Tea was also just the way she liked it – a bit bitter yet still refreshing and tasty. 🙂
STOP 2: TOAST BOX
For dinner, Biel and I decided to go to Toast Box. I had lovely meals at Toast Box when I was in Singapore so I had high expectations for this place. Here, we got an order of Kaya Toast to share, Laksa for myself, and Nasi Goreng for Biel.
As usual, the kaya toast at Toast Box was really good. I can eat this every day, I swear!
Kaya Toast, by the way, is a popular snack among Singaporeans. It comprises of Kaya (coconut jam) and butter on toast usually dipped into a bowl of raw eggs.
On the other hand, the Laksa I got was not up to par with my expectations. It wasn’t spicy and was a bit too bland. I found that such a shame because I love laksa. For those not familiar with curry laksa, it’s a popular coconut-based noodle soup in Singapore often served with shrimps, fish sticks, bean curd, egg, and clam.
In the end, I enjoyed Biel’s huge serving of Nasi Goreng more. It’s basically fried rice mixed with shrimp paste or what we Filipinos call bagoong rice. It had chicken and vegetables tossed into the mixture plus anchovy and sunny side up on the side. I liked this dish more because it had flavor. 🙂
That’s about it for today? How about you? What are you eating today? Let me know in the comments section below. 🙂
Ooh, I found the kaya toast weird but I’d love to try it! :)) I suddenly had the urge to go grab that Grape Yogurt Aloe Vera Tea! :))

I wanted to try Toast Box for the longest time but no branch near our place.
There’s one new place I like – MilkyWay Tea w/c serves both milk tea drinks and kaya toast :))) It’s beside Astoria Plaza in Ortigas.

The yogurt tea seems nice, haven’t tried it. I prefer nasi goreng than laksa, more pinoy ang nasi because I get to eat rice! 🙂

I’m curious about Ochado’s Pop Egg Milk Tea!
Buti they let you take photos at Toast Box. Ayaw nila dati pero just as well because I hated my Toast Box experience.
