Last Sunday was particularly hectic and stressful because my friend Joey and I had work. We were on the set of Party Pilipinas at GMA 7 documenting a segment. By the time we were done, it was already 3PM and both our tummies were grumbling so badly because we haven’t had any lunch yet.
Joey suggested that we visit a nearby restaurant in Tomas Morato, which was a favorite and hers and her boyfriend. The place, snugly situated in the side street of Scout Rallos, is a popular destination for those in search of the finest ribs in town.
Inside, the walls were populated by framed pop culture images. The downstairs was a little small and crowded so Joey and I climbed up the second story where more space can be found.
Scouring the menu, it was undeniable that we get their ribs. It was what they were known for after all. In addition to that though, we also ordered their house blend iced tea and their mussels and fries nibbles for our appetizer.
If you want to see more of their menu, then click here.
The first item we got served was their iced tea. No wonder Joey was excited about this because unlike my expectations, this tasted like the real thing – real tea with ice. You can even taste the slight bitterness of tea blended with sugar.
The mussels and fries, however, were not as good. I thought the melted cheese and sauce overpowered the taste of the mussels, making every bite a little too rich for my liking. The fries too were bland.
Then came our Super Duo ribs order with Sprice (spicy fried rice), Roasted Garlic Mashed Potato, and Buttered corn as our sides.
I’m very happy to note that this dish lived up to the hype. Although, initially, I thought I wouldn’t get much meat because these were ribs, I was delightfully surprised to find that generous helpings of gorgeous, succulent meat can be found every time I dug in between the bones.
The meat was so soft and tender that putting it in my mouth was pure pleasure. (Eww, that sounded weird but you know what I mean). The sauce perfectly complemented the flavors already found in the meat so I have no complaints about it.
Overall, it was a meal I greatly enjoyed.

The ribs made me drool! And I agree, an establishment is only as good as their iced tea. A place that goes the extra mile to literally make, ‘iced tea’ is a winner in my book. 😀

My boyfriend loves spicy fried rice, too. But we rarely visit Tomas Morato so we have to content ourselves with the nearby restos. 😦
