Beauty Review: Mary Kay Concealer in Ivory 1

There’s one thing I need to point out about concealers before I begin – just because they’re all called “concealers,” it doesn’t mean that they’re all the same. Every concealer has a different purpose, each working better than others to address particular problems.

For example, lighter and more fluid concealers work best at covering dark under eye circles, while the denser and more compact formulas are best used to conceal pimples and other blemishes.

Having said that, I would say that the Mary Kay Concealer is a great under eye concealer. Its fluid formula offers light to medium coverage, which is enough to conceal any dark circles. Moreover,Β I got mine in Ivory 1, which has yellow undertones. Yellow is great at counteracting the purple hues of dark circles.

However, despite it being fluid, the formula is also a bit dry and thick, hence it does not blend as smoothly as other liquid concealers. This can be resolved, however, by moisturizing the face before application.

I also noticed that with this concealer, a little goes a long way. A teeny tiny amount on your finger tip is enough to cover one under eye area. So, don’t worry if the tube appears to be a bit small. Because you only need a little per application, this little tube will probably last for ages.

Now, when it comes to pimples and blemishes, I would say that this concealer works good enough to cover pimple scars and dark spots. However, I find it difficult to use this to cover ripe and screaming red spots. I tried several methods of application – swiping, patting/dabbing, brush – but in the end, I find it difficult to completely neutralize the redness. A denser and higher coverage concealer, like MAC Studio Finish, does a better job.

Another thing that I’m not a fan of for this product is the packaging. The tube is just your run of the mill tube but the worst thing about it is how messy the tip can get even when you screw the lid on tightly. I just don’t know what causes the product to be all over the place. I do avoid squeezing the tube while putting the lid on. 😦

Anyway, for about PHP400 (could be more but my aunt sold it to me at that price), this is a good enough deal especially if you’re lucky enough to have great skin and don’t break out a lot. There are also several shades to choose from so you can choose one that will best match your skin tone.

I recommend that you try it and see for yourself. πŸ˜‰

    1. Make sure it’s only slightly lighter than your skin tone especially for under eye concealers para it will brighten your eyes. πŸ™‚ For pimples, make sure it matches your skin tone πŸ˜›

    1. You’re mom doesn’t allow you to wear makeup? Nako, yes! Concealers save me from looking silly after all the late nights and break outs. πŸ˜€

  2. Thanks for sharing…luckily, my BB cream can do the concealing part of my age spots/discolorations. But I’m pretty sure I’ll be needing some very soon because of my eye bags 😦 although I’m doing eye masks/creams overload… I’ll keep this brand in mind.

    Best Regards!

    1. Just look for a concealer that has great coverage. πŸ™‚ If you don’t have problems naman with your skin, e.g. massive breakouts, then Mary Kay is great πŸ™‚ Find a shade that matches your skin best. πŸ™‚
