Previously, I’ve written about some products that you can use to fight acne. Today, I’m going to feature another one that I’ve found truly effective. This was suggested by my friend Jill via Twitter and since I trust her opinion, I decided to give it a try.
Some of you may have heard of the brand Duac from Stiefel. It’s available at Mercury Drugstore and probably most leading drugstores nationwide. A small tube costs about PHP800+ but each milligram of it is potent and rich with pimple-killing ingredients.
Speaking of ingredients, Duac has a combination of Clindamycin (often used for antibacterial treatments) and Benzoyl peroxide, an essential medicine for acne treatment. Benzoyl Peroxide also works as a peeling agent that promotes the growth of new skin and in the process, clearing pores. Applying a small amount of this on the affected areas causes the acne to dry and disappear after a few days.
First time users, especially those with sensitive skin, may experience a bit of peeling and itching on the parts where the product came in contact with the skin, but this is only until a week or so when the skin develops tolerance. According the instructions on the tube, it may take 4 to 6 weeks before the product becomes fully effective.
I’ve been using it for almost three weeks and have indeed experienced some peeling and drying of the areas where I put Duac. However, with the peeling came the disappearance of acne and the inconvenience brought by it doesn’t last long. Just give yourself a good scrub to get rid of the dry skin.
Give this product a go if you’re experiencing a break out and don’t forget to let me know how it goes. π
ohw.. I haven’t heard of this product not until now. π I’ve been using Erythromycin Gel from my Derma for minor acne problems. π I might give this a try too though π

wow, this is a good post! my son is also having that dilemma, would you believe we even tried to use yakult to combat those nasty and stubborn pimples? it worked for a short time, but then we went back to square one. i’m also guilty of taking my 17 year old son to a derma just so we could get rid of those unsightly pimples but to no avail. it’s really starting to bother him because he joins inter-school competitions and his friends are also forming a band. thanks very much for this post!

Duac, a pimple exterminator is worth a try for those youngsters whose skins are sensitive to dirt, or to whatever biological factors that expedite the growing up of such personality-degrading dermal “disease” in their face. I’m lucky enough that I never experienced or got a pimples on my face.

I used Pond’s before. It’s similar to this one but the thing about Pond’s is that it makes my face react annoyingly. Would try this one if acne occurs. Thanks.

Oh, this isn’t a facial wash or a moisturizing cream. You only put it directly on spots. π

oh, this is very timely, my 12 year old son is beginning to have pimples and i am worried that it might turn to acne, i’ll ask about this product with our dermatologist

I don’t really use acne products because I’m scared. I just try and keep my face as clean as possible, although pimples would appear every now and then because I sleep late, and stress from school and work. gaahh… and I don’t think we have this here, and usually if we buy from the pharmacy, we need prescription. π¦

You can still check. It’s an international brand anyway π But I guess you have to go to the dermatologist for the prescription π¦ I sleep late too and my skin can be a bit oily depending on the weather so like last month, I was breaking out a lot that’s why I decided to try this. π

I love benzoyl peroxide! I use clearasil and it helps keep the pimple away…and if ver I still do get them it heals up quite fasr. π The only thing I need to find a cure for is shrinking my pores. Haven’t found a good way to do so.
PS: I have already posted a look for the DIY cosmic shirt π

Yeah, Clearasil is a good brand too! π I’m sure there are tons of pore minimizing products out there. You might try the one by Benefit. It’s called Benefit Porefessional. π

good thing for you to find an effective product. in my case, use of kalamansi extract the moment a pimp is about to come out is so effective.

My eyes grew bigger as I was reading the article. I hope this is the solution to my problem coz I have cystic pimples. I am already using panoxyl for my facial wash. And everytime a zit shows up I have to go to the doctor to have it injected. (seriously!) I will surely try this! Thank you so much!

What really? First time I’ve heard of that kind of condition. Ask your doctor if it’s ok to use this first though. π It works for me but not sure about your case. π

Benzoyl Peroxide is a zit zapper. A heaven sent to those with acne problems. It is not as expensive as that of derma treatments offered by dermatologist.. And it is over the counter so it is very accessible to everyone young or old. But please be aware that this is full of chemicals so just put a very little amount to your face.

Hey yah.. Thanks for posting it here.. Well, I’ve been an acne sufferer for years now.. Tried almost every product I know which can help me get rid of my pimples.. I even tried consulting a derma. Hmm.. The medications she gave me — adapalene, benzoyl peroxide and doxycycline helped me alot. But after a month, I noticed that the zits are slowly coming back, eventhough I still use adapalene. Now, after I read your post, I wanna give it a try. I’ve read several blogs/posts/forums about Duac and almost all of them are positive! Hope na maging effective rin siya sa akin! Haha.. Will update you as soon na magstart akong gumamit nito. God bless! π

Hi Kim, Duac is very good to use for curing pimples. However, prevention is much better! I’m currently using St. Ives Blemish and Blackhead Control facial scrub. It has salycilic acne medication plus natural apricot seed exfoliants. π I will make a review on it soon but so far, it’s been very good to me π

Hi! This is around PHP800 per tube. Not sure about Praventac coz I’ve never tried it. π This one’s good for drying out acne. Of course, prevention through good skin care is always better.

i use duac in morning,my face become supeer dry, peeling, burning and super stingling,, is it a normal process or im iritated na?
LikeLike
Did you apply it only in the areas where you have pimples or your entire face? I hope you only applied it in the pimple areas. The drying and peeling is normal. Sometimes, it also burns. Usually, moisturizing your face will take care of the peeling and dryness so make sure to still do that. If the burning feeling persists, do consult a derma. I can’t tell for certain as I can’t see it.

my derma told me that apply duac in my whole face,i dont know if is a normal process or whatever..
if i stop using duac, what will be the effect of that?

Seriously??? Hmm, well, if that’s the case then it will definitely cause a lot of peeling and dryness! I think it’s best if you show your derma what’s happening. There might be a reason as to why she asked you to do that.

how long it will take to make my face back to normal?

I’m not really sure π¦ I’ve only used Duac on my pimples, not my entire face. Usually, when I apply Duac on my pimples, it takes about 2 to 3 days to disappear. However, I moisturize my face everyday so it’s not dry.
